Southwestern Association for Indian Arts
After years of writing about Indian Market for publication, I was thrilled to be asked to work for SWAIA this year! Hired for the 2008 Indian Market, I was asked to develop copy for the Awards Dinner program. This included profiles on ten different artists from between 300-500 words, as well as three profiles of non-artists who have contibuted of their time to Indian Market and SWAIA. An awesome assignment that got me talking to some of the hottest artists and Market supporters around.

Mateo Romero, Cochiti artist Few clients ever make us happier than genuine artists. Most simply can't afford formal public relations help - when they can and they choose META, we're about as happy as we can be. That was especially the case when award-winning painter Mateo Romero decided to hire Gregory Pleshaw to write some curatorial pieces for him, including an acquisitions essay for the Philbrook Museum in the spring of 2007 (which Romero has allowed us to reproduce here) and a curatorial essay for the upcoming "War Paint" show at the Institute for American Indian Arts museum in October 2007.
