META: Gregory Pleshaw, Santa Fe Writer
Gregory Pleshaw began his career as a journalist in 1990 at the age of twenty.
Writing first for The Daily Lobo and The Santa Fe Sun, he soon became a regular
contributor to the award-winning arts weekly The PasaTiempo, under the tenure
of the legendary editor Denise Kusel. There, Pleshaw learned how to talk to
artists about their mediums, their challenges, and their work. He also learned
how to take the raw material of their words and weave them into narratives
on the process of making fine art – a skill for which he is eternally
grateful.
In 1994, the invention of Mosaic and the emergence of the World Wide
Web captured a lot of people's attention – Pleshaw included. Like many
others, he learned HTML and made simple web pages. He also began to study technology
and contributed small pieces to Wired magazine, as well as local pieces
about the phenomenon of the Web. He began to conduct informal lectures and
seminars about the Internet, and found himself in demand for people and companies
looking to do business on the Web.
A number of diverse contract positions followed,
including strategic reports for an interactive war-zone website called “Berzerkistan,” UPN's
television show “Strange Universe,” a technical writing position
with an online music software company called ResRocket Surfer, a director
of communications position at the web-based encrypted email company Hushmail,
and an Information Architecture position at TradeSafe.com, an online banking
and escrow company.
Publishing pieces along the way in both technology and the arts, Pleshaw
stayed involved with the tech world and the arts because he found that the
two actually had a lot in common. Both worlds were filled with bright people
with a thirst for innovation, a hunger for change, and an uncanny knack for
creative problem-solving.
The mission of META Consulting is to help create intersections between these
not-so divergent worlds. Whether you have need for consultation and advice,
or the deliverables of professional writing and media project management,
whether it comes in the fields of either art or technology (or a convergence
of both) META can help you because we've probably been there – or we
know someone who has.
